This garden long held plants whose flowers and leaves are well-known for their delicious fragrance: roses, jasmine, honeysuckle... Many other indigenous and tropical plants have been added. The fragrances they give off from spring to fall are fascinating. These include the Brazilian guava or feijoa, St. John’s (millepertuis), Vitex agnus castus (or monk’s pepper) and tamarisk tree.
They fulfil the vocation of this intimate garden sheltered from the Mistral wind by the high walls of La Chartreuse. This carefully-tended space beckons the visitor to contemplation and dreamy rest.
